Life Skills

We follow the PATHS (Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies) programme. This curriculum helps children to develop their self-esteem and teaches them about feelings and behaviours. One of the key concepts of PATHS is that all feelings are ok but not all of our behaviours are ok. We teach children how to respond to their feelings. From Reception, children are taught to give compliments to their friends and receive them when they are ‘Child of the Day.’

We follow the statutory guidance for the new RSHE (Relationships, Sex and Health Education) curriculum. This teaches our children to have a better understanding of themselves and links in with our PATHS curriculum which teaches children to develop their self-esteem. In our schools, we want children to develop their full potential, physically, socially and mentally. We aim to teach children to develop positive attitudes towards their health and respect towards other individuals and groups. The curriculum provides knowledge and the appropriate skills and attitudes to use this knowledge throughout your child’s life.

Our Philosophy curriculum teaches children to develop their reasoning and understanding of different questions. Some of these questions are life questions, others ask children to think ‘outside of the box’ to develop their own answer. In Philosophy, there is no wrong answer…children are encouraged to have different opinions to those of their friends and encourages a friendly debate within the class.
